Tortuga Laguna is the 1st turtle themed coffee table by Laguna artist David Michael Vaughn. The artwork is a combined tribute to beautiful Laguna Beach and the magical allure of the ever-popular sea turtle. The artist has been fascinated by the sea turtle's reputation as an ocean voyager and its mystical status. Painting the sunset vista of the Main Beach curvature of Laguna in the shape of a turtle shell has been David's dream and vision. It's an homage to the city he calls home, and a city many people have come to know as one of the most magical and romantic spots on earth!
An additional narrative of this artwork is the iconic imagery of the baby turtles making their way to the ocean to start a life of navigating and adventuring. The baby turtles are carved in wood and are drawn in pyrography (wood burning). Austrian Mappa Burlwood is the central wood of the work and has an amazing coastal appearance to its edges and coloring. The wood has features that look like both a coastline and a beach. The 24K gold hand painted sea fan has become a mainstay in the artist's aquatic inspired art. David uses a single central support base of curved iron that makes the table almost float in air. The art was made with 5 layers of epoxy that build up multiple dimensions with various painted elements on each layer. Two smaller turtles swim in the lower right-hand side of the table appearing to be at different depths. Acrylic paint, pigments, real diamond dust, crystals, iridescent foil and gold leaf combine to provide sparkle and rich textures within the piece. Relax, it's sunset and two figures walk along the beach as two seagulls fly over the horizon of the geography of Laguna's famous coastline. The table features a lighting array beneath the art that makes the table glow and light up as evening sets in. A piece of museum grade Opti-White, tempered, low lead glass tops off the table. This glass protects the artistic elements of the work and makes it a functional piece of artwork. A remote and rechargeable battery pack also come with this ultra-dimensional master work. Signed by the artist. A blue metal info plaque is mounted underneath the table with the artwork's details.
